How to Make a Wiper Card

This Mother's Day card and the Balloon Card (shown further down in the instructions) showcases the Wiper Card technique - a two-sided card that can be moved horizontally to allow a pop up image to appear. It folds flat to pop in an envelope for easy postage.

Step 1
Prepare your card pieces by cutting out your cardstock in the following sizes:
2x Base Card in Plain Colour Cardstock: 4 ¼” x 6 ¾”
1x White Cardstock: 4 1/8” x 4 7/8”
1x Patterned Cardstock: 4” x 4 ¾”
1x Strip of White Cardstock: 4 1/8” x 7/8”
1x Strip of Patterned Cardstock: ¾” x 4”
1x White Cardstock: 2” x 2 ¾”
Glimmer/ Glitter Paper
White Cardstock
2 Shades of Cardstock to complement your patterned cardstock

Step 2
Take one base card rectangle (with shortest side vertical) and score vertically at 1” and 1 ¾” from the left side of card. Repeat on second base card rectangle.

Step 3
Take the 2 x 2 ¾” white card and with the longest side vertical, take the top left corner & score it to form a triangular corner at the ½” line. Try to ensure an even triangle is formed. Fold the corner back and forth a couple of times to loosen card fibres and make it flexible.

Step 4
Take one of the scored base rectangles, and with the score lines on your left side, fold the middle score line away from you, ensuring edges are flush. Then fold the left score line towards you, forming a “Z” type fold. Repeat with the other base scored rectangle.
When we put the card together, the two “Z’s” will be at opposite ends to each other.

Step 5

To decorate the front of the card, take one base rectangle with the folded Z bit on the left. Put adhesive on the back of the large white rectangular cardstock and attach to the right side of the base card. Then place adhesive on the rear of the patterned large rectangular cardstock & attach this on top of the white cardstock, creating a layered effect.
Then take the white card strip & stick this on the very left rectangle folded part of the same card front. Then attach patterned strip on top of the white strip.
Take the second blank base card with the “Z’ on the left side – this will form the back of your card. Stamp sentiment & any images you desire on the right side of the card.

Step 6
Flip the front card over so that the “Z” is still on the left side (the top of the card should be the bottom part of the card once flipped). Take the white corner-scored card. Add liquid glue to the rear of the top left corner of white scored card. Attach to the back of the front card by lining it up to the right of the left score line, 1 ¾” high.

Step 7
Now we are going to attach the front & back cards together. Put liquid glue on the rear left panel of the front card & attach to the back of the card. Repeat on other end of the card.
Step 8
Die-cut two balloons (one stripe and one spotted one from the Balloon Adventures Stamp Set) and two bows using glitter paper (you can use other cardstock if you desire). Using the balloon punch, punch out two large white balloons.Glue (using liquid glue) the glitter balloons onto the white balloons. Use a mini glue dot to adhere the bows onto the balloon bases. Then attach balloons onto the white inner card piece, layering them slightly over each other.

Note: If you desire other images to pop out (eg butterflies, flowers, etc.) replace balloons to suit your preferences. On the Mother's Day card I selected butterflies to suit the stamp set I selected.
